About Children's Alopecia Areata
Alopecia Areata is the sudden appearance of round or oval patches of hair loss. These patches are completely smooth and bald without any signs of inflammation, scaling, or broken hairs.
Alopecia Areata is caused by the body's immune system attacking the hair follicles; just as if the body attacks the lungs it’s called asthma, the joints...arthritis, hair...Alopecia. It is a very common disorder with approximately 1:1,000 children developing some kind of Alopecia.
Alopecia Areata is very distinctive as a hair disorder so it is usually diagnosed with a visual examination. There is no cure for Alopecia Areata, There are, however, several medications which are sometimes used for the treatment of AA which may help in some cases, while these treatments may promote hair growth, none of them will actually cure the underlying problem which is causing the disorder.
